York Minster (without HDR)

As requested yesterday this was the shot of York Minster without the HDR effect, same distortion/perspective issues and only a conversion from raw to jpeg for you to compare against yesterday (with HDR)

A much warmer light in this original,the HDR brightens it up but also makes it look a lttle flat.I prefer this shot.

@Anthony Lambert: Many thanks Anthony...I suppose the issue with the HDR...without further adjustment is you give away some control?

the hdr gives a bit more texture in the sky but I don't think this picture was ideal for hdr processing as I don't see any clipped under or overexposed areas in this photo. So, in this case my preference goes out to this shot as well.

@[suvni:R]: cheers Suvnir...does that mean you tend to use HDR in only the less perfect shots? (not that I am claiming any of mine are!)

Personally, I love this better than the HDR version (more appealing colours and textures)... the inclusion of a human figure is simply brilliant!:-)

Interesting, I prefer this one because of the light. Was your HDR picture based on only this photo or did you have a sequence of under- to overexposed images?

@MadScientist: many thanks...this method uses only a single image...I haven't found the confidence to adjust the settings further!

i meant that normally hdr is used when there is too much contrast for the camera sensor to capture the whole range which makes a picture partially under- or overexposed in a single shot. Always multiple exposures through bracketing. Your picture here seems fine (no clipped highlights or shadows) and hence needs no hdr processing imho. Sorry for being unclear earlier :-)
